Sports students at the University of Bedfordshire have been given a helping hand thanks to a sports scholarship.
Six students have been awarded the Platinum Performance Scholarship, designed to support the students’ development in their chosen sport, as well as supporting university sport.
The students who were awarded the Scholarships are:
The Scholarship includes membership to the University’s gyms and Strength & Conditioning Unit, initial screening and physiological and biomechanical assessment and ￡1,000 to put towards equipment, kit and travel expenses.
Sport & PE student Gemini, who plays dodgeball for England, said: “The Scholarship will allow me to go to the gym which is on campus so I can fit it in around my studies more easily. It will also help me buy my kit for the England squad which isn’t cheap.”
Sport & PE student Eliza, who plays lacrosse for England, said: “It’s such an honour to get this Scholarship. It will give me gym membership and the support I need to prepare for the World Cup. It will help me buy new equipment like sticks and boots so I’m ready for the World Cup.”
Sport Science & Coaching student Alex, who is a Level 4 referee with Football Association (FA), said: “The backing of the University will help with opportunities to use the gym and the Strength & Conditioning Unit to aid my fitness levels.”
Assistant Director of Sport Stephen Pitt said: “It is great to honour our sporting scholars and support them through the academic year. I hope by showcasing these six scholars we can encourage others to aspire to sporting success and support more students through their sporting journey whilst at the University.”
